November 3rd was Cuenca’s Independence Day. It is a major town in Ecuador, south of Quito.
We could have possibly taken the bus a few days earlier to be in Cuenca, for the city’s celebration, but making such moves quickly with a family is much harder than traveling solo.
Cuenca is a smaller town than Quito, at a lower elevation so it will be a bit warmer and a university town where the people are known for being quite friendly and helpful to foreigners learning Spanish.
We have been in Quito almost two weeks and we have decided to relocate to Cuenca, Ecuador.
It will take a 10 hour bus ride to travel between the two cities over/along some beautiful mountains. We have decided to travel during the day for several reasons — Mai never sleeps well on a moving vehicle, I can take photos during the daytime bus ride and it is safer to travel during the day — less accidents.
Cuenca also has a great hardware store and computer store, so I’m all set. We will rent for awhile and then who knows. Maybe when we rent a house, some of our friends can come and visit us.
