For you dog lovers, it is fairly easy to bring a dog into Ecuador, but you need to get your dog’s papers apostilled. You need to have a certified veterinarian examine and administer any needed shots and then the certified veterinarian must send the dog’s papers to your Secretary of State within 10 days of your departure and he/she will apostilize (special notarization) the papers and return them back to you to give to the Ecuadorian customs. Upon your return, you will have to do the same here in Ecuador for US Customs. This information comes from a couple from Missouri who I met yesterday who had flown with their dog into Ecuador this last week.
However, I was told that last year a young women brought the papers with her without any notarization, presented them to Ecuadorian customs upon arrival at the airport and had no problems bringing in her German Shepard. She did the same upon leaving, but no one was sure of her outcome with US customs. Your call.
